Members in the picture: The University of Sannio (Italy)

The University of Sannio is a fairly small (about 5000 enrolled students) institution in Benevento, South Italy. The men’s basketball team is participating for the 4th year in a row in the IFIUS World Interuniversity Games.
“The Budapest selection is very similar to the successful team of last year which obtained an honoured third place in the Vienna 2007 Games. There is no ‘best player’ … we have different skilled players, with all different characteristics and all of them are of fundamental importance for the team.”, according Prof. Umberto Vilano, Coach of the Basketball Team.

When asked about his best memory of participating in the World Interuniversity Games, Prof. Vilano says: “My best memory … I would say ‘our’ best memory, is our first game in Vienna.” In that game, the University of Sannio beat the Russian Northern International University: 83-71.

The teams of the University of Sannio have always booked good results in the IFIUS World Interuniversity Games. Last year a third place in the Basketball Men competition and in Dublin (2006 Games) a first place in the Volleyball Women competition.

The main objective for Prof. Vilano and his team for the Budapest 2008 Games: “We wish to enjoy the Games but of course we will be very happy with a good place in the final rankings.” … The IFIUS team already wishes this great member a lot of success during the 2008 Games!
