World Cup Party to end the third day of competition

 Day 3 of the 10th IFIUS World Interuniversity Games Budapest 2008 is behind us and this day ended with the famous World Cup Party. This year the party was organized at Club Inside on the river side of the Danube. Only smiling faces at the party where teams gathered to enjoy music, dancing and partying together.

Day 2 of the competition

 The second day of the competition provided the participants and the spectators with some spectacular matches. The two strongest competitors in the Football Women competition, University of Antwerp (Belgium) and USMA (Panama) met each other on the soccer pitch to see who would be first in qualification round. The match ended with a 2-1 result in favour of the girls from Panama. It will be very interesting to see what the result will be if these teams meet each other again.

 A sunny day in Budapest for the start of the 10th IFIUS World Interuniversity Games 2008. Expectations about the competition level were very high seeing the strong list of participating teams. Already there were some surprising results and there are still many matches to look forward to. 

The Games are open

 Yesterday at 20h00 the 10th edition of the IFIUS World Interuniversity Games was officially opened in Budapest during the Opening Ceremony at the Main Hall of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. After an official welcome by Dr. G. Pecelli, Rector of the Host University, one of the many international competitors took the player's oath. After the honoring of last year's Champions, Dr. B. Ghadimi (IFIUS President) officially declared the Games to be open. The opening of the Games continued into the early hours with players from different nationalities celebrating together.  

Visa issues with reduced impact on match schedules

The ongoing internationalization of the federation has a clear impact on the number of visa issued for the World Interuniversity Games, incorporating specific issues. Although the number of teams will not or barely change, the Budapest 2008 Organizing Committee will give a final update on any changes in the match schedules on Monday morning, October 6th. All participating teams and interested parties are strongly advised to check on that day, the Budapest pages of this website to be completely informed about updates. Additionally all team representatives are informed about all possible updates during the accreditations on Monday October 6th.

Accreditation Teams and Opening Ceremony

Today all teams were welcomed in the Ceremony Hall of the host university BME for the accreditation of the players, team officials and teams. Meanwhile the organizing committee is preparing the Opening Ceremony which starts at 20.00 h tonight. Meanwhile, the venue coordinators of the organizing committee are finalizing the last set up details of the different games locations. Tomorrow, the first matches start at 10.30 h at the Ferencvaros women’s football venue: Panama Technical University – University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, Lessius University College – Catholic University Santa Maria La Antigua and University of Antwerp – Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

IFIUS teams all over Budapest

The Hungarian Capital welcomed also today university teams from all over the world. The hotel and hostel organization runs swiftly and all team guides are ensuring each team of an optimal guidance. Tomorrow, Monday 6th, even more teams will be arriving in Budapest and the accreditation desk will be opened at 10.00 h in the morning. Tomorrow evening all players, team officials, stewards, supporters and all other interested party are invited for the Opening Ceremony in the Main Hall of the host university BME.

IACC arrives in Budapest

Today all members of the International Arbitration and Control Commission (IACC) arrived in Budapest. Meetings are organized with the different venue coordinators and referee representatives. Tomorrow a final venue visit is scheduled to guarantee a correct implementation of the IFIUS venue regulations. On Monday, the IACC will welcome all team representatives in the BME main building to ensure the accreditation of all teams.

IFIUS Budapest 2008 HQ Contact Details

The IFIUS staff arrived in Budapest to prepare an optimal start of the IFIUS Games. The host, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), offers IFIUS the necessary infrastructure and office space to ensure an efficient working of the IFIUS Secretariat General during the 10th World Interuniversity Games. First university teams arrive in Budapest

The host University BME and IFIUS welcomed today in Budapest the first 2 teams, the Russian North-Eastern State University and KIMEP University from Kazakhstan. Also today, all team guides received their final instructions concerning the guidance of the 68 participating university teams. Each team guide is appointed one team for the complete duration of the World Interuniversity Games. The arrival of the first team had a clear impact on all team guides, all very eager to finally meet their own team.
